GLOBELICS (Global Network for Economics of Learning, Innovation, and Competence Building Systems) is an international network of scholars who apply the concept of "learning, innovation, and competence building system" (LICS) as their framework and dedicated to the strengthening of LICS in the South.
GLOBELICS has regional chapters in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Apart from providing training for PhD scholars through the Academy at Lisbon GLOBELICS organizes annual conferences. Hitherto three such conferences have been organized. The first conference (2003), Rio de Janeiro, was followed by the second conference at Beijing (2004) and the third conference was held in Pretoria (2005).
GLOBELICS 2006 will be in India during 4-7 October 2006. The venue of the conference will be in Thiruvanathapuram (or Trivandrum for the linguistically challenged), the beautiful capital city of Kerala State in the southwestern part of the Indian subcontinent. Kerala, with social indicators of development comparable to developed countries, is well known among development practitioners as one of the most innovative states of the Indian union. Trivandrum boasts itself of a number of important scientific establishments of national importance covering a range of technologies such as space technology, biotechnology and IT providing an ideal setting for an international conference devoted to a discussion of issues related to innovation and competence building in developing countries. |
